40,000 Rock fans were treated to a night of The Tragically Hip and Taj Mahal on opening night of Bluesfest in Ottawa. No tripod was used for this shot.

Everyone was staying safe after a great musical ride and the laughter heard on the long walk home. This is what it's usually like. We spill into the street and roll it up early.

The festival has grown from a few dozen volunteers to over 3,000 since 1994 and has attracted over 300,000 music fans in 2007.

Tonight, the golden ticket was Zappa plays Zappa. [link] Dweezil has a good action. Also starring members of the Mothers of Invention. This night was Ray White [link] on vocals and rhythm guitar. Get the CD! Encourage this guy.

That's really funny, I was there, I walked up that exact street turned around and wanted to take a pic. Thing was my memory card was full, I had my Canon S3 which also has video, I filmed 3 and one quarter of the songs, just from the screen mind you, and I had no room left on my card.

It was actually quite hard to shoot. There was barely any light hitting the crowd and I pushed the camera to 1600 on a slow shutter. I ddint' have a tripod though I wish I had.

Ha ha no I looked though :) Yeah it's a tough shot, and who wants to lug a tripod around at the Bluesfest! It's a great scene, worth documenting.

I haven't been able to reproduce it on subsequent evenings. Certainly not Steely Dan night. (Can you believe they wanted a police escort from the airport? Who do they think they are?) I might have for GBS but I was helping with something else.

Yeah I was at Steely Dan, I can't believe they didn't play "Reeling in the Years"! You may have been able to reproduce it at GBS, maybe not quite though.

The Tragically Hip est un groupe très populaire dans certaines régions d'Amérique du Nord malgré que le Canada demeure sa base de fan purelaine.
