Me and the King of Riffs by BenoitAubry Me and the King of Riffs by BenoitAubry
"Keith! Keith! Keith! Keith! Keef! Keef! Keef!..."

Nobody on the planet can write rock riffs like this man can. I got to hear him rock out here in 2005 at Frank Clair Stadium (Lansdowne Park/Death Valley) I was in the mood to do a rocker shot and here it is, bad boy me. Chuckle if you must. It was meant in jest.

I'm wearing the X-Pensive Winos tour shirt from 1988. His band included Steve Jordan, Sarah Dash [link] , Waddy Wachtel [link] , Bobby Keys [link] , Ivan Neville [link] and Charley Drayton [link] .

I still have it although, it doesn't fit me like it did. The shot was taken in a mirror with a Canon AV-1 fitted with a 50mm f/1.8 lens.

Words are fairly useless, attempting to give a good descrpition to this picture.

I think it's a great, convincing photograph.

(Also, I feel slightly reminded of a young Stephen King.)

Anyone that proudly uses film and "old" Canons is okay by me.

Awesome lens, too. Nifty Fifty. It's been the glass behind many of my best shots! :)

I'm not ready to give up on film. I still prefer it to digital. Mainly because I'm so familiar with it and the really hard stuff I want to do seems to only doable with film. My digital isn't cooperating sometimes. Grrrrr!

ditto- digital is nice in some ways if I just want to get a fix, but the art of the emulsion still draws...

I grew up with a film photographer teaching me, so there really isn't a comparison. I view digital and film as two separate creatures, to be honest with you!

Totally! What makes film more flexible is that it's a photochemical process giving it infinite possibilities and superior detail (so far. thee is no affordable consumer format digital camera that allows the same resolution). No matter what film SLR camera you have, it will do what you want it to do, as long as you have good lenses. Digital cameras, so far, are only as good as their software. It can do some interesting things, but at the end of the day, what companies should have done is create a digital camera with just the aspects of film cameras. A light meter, speed, aperture, focus and film speed values. Leave the rest to the photographer.

I agree- my little 350D is going to be a great vacation camera once i buy a lens that doesn't suck for it. ;) I bought it to try out DSLRs and it's not bad, but it's getting boring fast.

I'll probably invest in a good DSLR for professional reasons, but stick with film most of the time. Like I said, nothing compares...

In fact, I have 3 rolls of B&W that are in my bag that need to be shot...

I tried to get a 16mm film biz going in 89 and bought a fridge just for film... and my lunches :PWhen you don't use film, keep it in the fridge. It de-animates the chemical process going on. It's not unthinkable to keep film in a fridge for up to 10 years. as long as you don't open the the container you keep the roll in. I've done it with tri-X
I have some left from my second 50 ft roll in a loader.
Bought it around 98 or 99.

oh, yes- I know aaaall about the fridge thing! My dad has been a professional photographer for many years and remember the frige being filled with film of all sorts :)

I keep it in the bag because it never lasts more than 2 days there.

I *have* always and *will* always adore this photo. If it were a poster, I'd probably spend WAY too much time in my bedroom. With the door locked. 'Nuff said.

Exactly, the King of Riffs! :D

You know what amazes me?

That after so many years of playing on stage he still can be shy xD
When I was at the Stones gig he received such applause that he didn't knew what to say.
And after he finaly spoke saying "good evening" applause got even bigger xD

It was charming, things like that make me love him even more xD

Here, he said "Long time, no see!" referring to the fact that the last time the Stones played in Ottawa was 1963 and the incidents in Toronto didn't help.

Wow, you're hot!

Haha, but you know I know that. ;)

I love this shot of you, because it's the first shot of you I ever saw. I remember thinking to myself, "Who is this guy? Is he someone I should know?", because at a glance it looked really pro.

And that's when I made up my mind to stalk you, in case you didn't know ;) Your self-portraits are pretty darn cool.

I will refrain from commenting in public about your biceps. Heh heh. (Yum)
