Vancouver is a stressful city for a newbie who isn't working. So, I would try to relax by hunting for shots.
This was shot on tri-X with a 50mm Canon lens at f/1.8, 1/125th of a second on a bright sunny day. There was an overhang and the concrete reflected the sunlight around us just so. A prime example of a one-shot opportunity. I saw both of these tikes in the wagon, obviously exhausted from a full day on Commercial Drive in Vancouver. I asked permission to take a shot, telling the mother it was for my portfolio. She agreed and I pointed the camera. It's just then that the girl turned and looked at me as if saying: "I've had a long day, why are you bothering me?" I couldn't believe she was giving me the look I needed to take. This photograph is one of my favourites for a few reasons. 1) I got the shot despite freezing on the button, at first. 2) Photographs seem to somehow connect to the photographer in an abstract or subconscious manner. A part of us is in the pictures we take. There is an extreme duality in this one as I've found in several other ones I've taken in that time. Weird coincidence? I don't know. I guess I was searching for something, answers, questions. This duality appeared in a chess game, bike riders and other images. It was brought to my attention by someone who was peeking at my stuff and she said I should really look at that more closely. I did. A soul-search ensued. ****************************** I'd like to thank everyone who dropped by and left a comment and Thanks to obsidian-fox [link] for the kindness in offering this shot as a DD. I'm very grateful. Don't be shy and look at the rest of my gallery [link] Now if you'll excuse me, I need some chocolate Daily DeviationGiven 2008-02-20Almost alive on the Drive by ~BenoitAubry Street photography isn't always about being stealthy.. I like the fact that even tho he had permission (from the mother), it isn't posed, and one of his subject doesn't even know he was there.. (Featured by `Obsidian-Fox) |

A great pic - so great it gives me the same "oh-my-gosh" feeling from the girl's look as the eyes of the (in)famous National Geo cover of "that girl with the eyes," which, unlike your pic, was a POSED photo - thereby making your photo all the more impressive.
I'm babbling. Sorry. A picture is worth a thousand words, but in the wrong hands, the words aren't strung together very skillfully.
You rawk, Mr. Man.
